Abstract
The authors studied muscle fatigue in patients with parkinsonism receiving pathogenetic therapy and in elderly healthy subjects by means of turn-amplitude analysis of surface electromyography (EMG). The healthy subjects reacted to fatigue with a significant increase in the amplitude and number of EMG turns during static exercise and a decrease in the peak ratio. In patients with parkinsonism, fatigue began after an exercise that was half of that in the healthy subjects with a decrease in the number of turns and mean amplitude and an increase in peak ratio. These data show that dynamics of strength and EMG parameters differs in patients with parkinsonism and healthy subjects.
