Electromagnetic properties of low-lying Mg-26 states

Abstract

Levels in Mg26 have been excited in the Mg26(α, α′γ)Mg26 reaction at Eα=16 MeV. Angular correlation and Doppler shift attenuation methods have been used to measure γ-ray branching ratios, mixing ratios, and lifetimes of bound states up to Ex=6.9 MeV. Values or limits for the transition probabilities for 11 states have been deduced. The data are used to revise the structure of the Kπ=2+ and 3+ rotational bands. These bands consist of the following states E (MeV), Jπ: for Kπ=2+, 2.94(2+), 4.35(3+), 5.72(4+); for Kπ=3+, 3.94(3+), 5.47(4+). NUCLEAR REACTIONS Mg26(α, α′γ), E=16 MeV; Mg26 measured Eγ, Iγ, δ, T12; calculated B(Λ); Ge(Li) detector. Enriched target.
