Abstract

Octet breaking in SU3 is used together with a "weighted" linear transformation for the physical fields to determine the effect of symmetry breaking by mass splitting on the Kl3 form factors. It is argued that the "weighted" linear transformation at small three-momentum is a reliable approximation to the nonlinear transformation nature of the physical fields. A result for ξ, consistent with this approximation and the Gell-Mann-Okubo mass formula, is obtained and provides ξ=−0.86.
