Abstract

The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Cu2(C8H4NO6)2Cl2(C10H8N2)2]·2H2O, contains two half binuclear complex molecules and two solvent water molecules; the complete complex molecule is generated by the application of a centre of inversion in each case. Each independent CuII cation is penta-coordinated within a distorted square-pyramidal environment defined by a two μ2-O atoms (derived from two 2-carboxy-5-nitrobenzoato anions), two N atoms (bipyridine ligand) and one Cl. Binuclear species are assembled into a two-dimensional supramolecular architecture parallel to (01) by O—H⋯O and O—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.
