Among the few lively moments of the 1998 election campaign maybe numbered Mr John Howard's comment that Mr Kim Beazley doesn't possess the 'ticker' required for Australian leadership. The qualities of health, stamina and genetic inheritance demanded of an Australian prime minister have seldom been subjected to systematic analysis; and so it occured to me that it might be an appropriate topic for a gathering such as this...
