Abstract

Summary Haemophilus actinomycetemcomitans which is considered to be a commensal bacteria of the buccal flora has been shown to cause severe infections in man. The authors report here an ankle infection characterized by a chronic progression of local symptoms. The clinically torpid appearance of the infection that was not painful and did not impede the mobility of the joint is quite peculiar, it may be responsible for the failure to recognize the osteoarthritis and for the delay in the diagnosis and the appropriate antibiotic therapy.
