Abstract

Abstract An ancillary measure to increase the size of an “unused abdominal cavity” is described. Cardiac and respiratory embarrassment may be reduced in cases of diaphragmatic or abdominal wall defects by using this technique. This consists of dividing the rectus muscles transversely at the level of the umbilicus and allowing full use of the abdomen for the replacement of the intestinal tract.
