The method of calculating the interior force of soil nails and case analysis

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses a reasonable design approach for soil nailing on the basis of the current methods in the technical codes of the PRC. A new method called sliding wedge-mass limit analysis is developed for estimating the interior force in nails. The chapter presents the results of an analysis undertaken to check the reliability of the method proposed. Beijing Hai-Run International Apartment is located in Jiangtai Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing. The building complex includes 5 tower blocks with 17–28 storeys and one public building with 2–3 storeys. There is a large underground parking lot with two storeys under the whole building complex. The results of the analysis show that the interior force in the second row nails is about 12kN, smaller than the designed interior force 21.72kN, and the interior force in 4th row nails is about 6kN, much smaller than the designed interior force 68.82kN.
