Abstract

Abstract Communication is now a vital and ubiquitous resource for the world as a whole, and there is a greater awareness of the importance and scope of the right to communicate. Meanwhile, WCY englobes many fields, including international broadcasting, which is a neglected technology in FLL systems, despite its clear advantages. Reception of external broadcasts is two-fold: good electronic reception is a prerequisite to effective listening. The potential usefulness of these broadcasts is in the broad areas of (mainly oral receptive) language skills, language acquisition and cross-cultural understanding. (Further articles will elaborate on these two reception processes.)
