Abstract

Abstract Experimental and computed data on the solubility of uranium (IV) oxide in water and aqueous solutions have been critically reviewed and the computed data from different sources compared. The computed solubility data differ by as much as seven orders of magnitude. It is thus concluded that the effect of the numerical value of the equilibrium constants invoked in the computation of the solubility values is crucial. Only limited confidence should be placed in computed predictions when the quality of the input data is not known.
