Abstract

Abstract The excitation of the isoscalar dipole state at 7.12 MeV in 16O is shown to be non-collective, but core polarisation corrections are required to enhance transition-density matrix elements from 1ħω shell model of spectroscopy. A very simple model of such, core polarisation corrected, shell model structure has been used in distorted wave approximation analyses of 135 MeV and 800 MeV (p→p′) transition data. The significance of medium corrections to the two-nucleon t-matrix and also of the exchange (knock-on) amplitudes resulting from complete antisymmetrization of the scattering states are demonstrated by the data analyses.
