Abstract

Abstract Measured in magnetic fields of 0–1 T and electric fields of up to 6 kV/cm, we present the drift velocity and the magnetic deflection angle for 39 CF 4 based gases with admixtures of CH 4, C 2H 6, C 3H 8, iC 4H 10, and CO 2. The behavior of the velocities under magnetic fields can be understood by an effective scaling law. For comparison, we give a figure-of-merit for the deflection of different mixtures.
