Information space as a phenomenon of modern culture attracts great attention of researchers. The mechanisms of its functioning are complicated and changeable. Information technology penetrates into different spheres of life, and education cannot stay out of it. We are observing a process of forming an information society. The success of a modern person in his or her professional activity often depends on his or his ability to find, process the necessary information. The effectiveness of its search, the criticality of perception of what we have found and an ability to estimate the degree of importance of the information is determined by the level of the culture of media use. The most important stage in the formation of the culture of media use is a period of school learning where the main subject of the formation of this culture, in our opinion, is a teacher of informatics. The teacher of informatics himself or herself should be ready for a purposive formation of the culture of media use with school students, and, consequently, should have a formed culture of media use of his or her own.
