Abstract

Abstract BiSrCaCuO thin films were deposited on (100)-oriented MgO single crystals using the pulsed-laser deposition technique and targets of nominal composition Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8 + δ ( i.e. ( [ Bi]:[ Sr]:[ Ca]:[ Cu] = )2:2:1:2 ) with the mass density larger than 90% of the theoretical value. To obtain an in-situ process of producing single-phase 2:2:1:2 films, we varied three parameters, namely the substrate temperature, the oxygen pressure and the distance between the target and substrate. The results of surface studies using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, the superconducting transition temperature and the critical current density are discussed.
