Abstract

Abstract The turbulent flow of a three component system has been studied. The system consisted of water, solid particles and a complex soap as an additive reducing friction. The influence of pipe diameter, flow rate, and concentration of both solid particles and the complex soap was investigated. Pipe diameters ranged from 7 to 21 mm, mean velocities from 50 to 460 cm/s and the volume concentration of particles was up to 20%. The micellar additive used extends the “laminar region” of the flow.
