Modern basketball play is characterised by high activity intensity during all 40 minutes and puts high demands on basketball players. There is necessity for broad range of basic and specific functional and motoric abilities. It is almost impossible to isolate one that is not important for the success in the game. This work deals with physiological background of basketball game and the analyses of movement patterns. There is also a review of physiological profile of basketball male and female players. Their aerobic, anaerobic and motoric abilities are described.
