Abstract

Abstract The bonding in Ag 2PbO 2 is predominantly covalent and is analogous to the bondings in yellow PbO and Ag 2O. The bonding in Ag 5Pb 2O 6, except for the linear OAgO bonds, is predominantly ionic and contains PbO chains like those in αPbO 2. Two silver atoms apparently form ionic bonds with the six surrounding oxygen atoms and reduce the interionic expulsion between themselves by using one electron for mutual screening.
