Abstract Chiral ligands for lithium were classified into two types: those connecting to reactants through a covalent bond and those connecting to the reactants without a covalent bond. These ligands were believed to dissociate oligomeric organolithium compounds in solution and activate them toward electrophiles and acidic compounds in an asymmetric environment. This chapter describes not only reactions with stoichiometric ligands but also catalytic reactions.
