Abstract

Abstract We derive the pressure dependence of the transition temperature of the spin-Peierls transition within both mean-field theory and the extended theory of Cross and Fisher. The salient differences between the results of these cases are delineated. The anharmonicity of the dimerized lattice mode plays a crucial role in the deduced behavior, especially in the Cross-Fisher case. Using data for TTF-CuBDT, values for lattice force constants and related observables are calculated and are found to be internally consistent.
