Abstract

Abstract An iteration method is suggested to generate a so-called super-element, by taking advantage of the size-independence of the stiffness of a plane element, for the solution of singularity problems. It is noted that the subelements around a crack tip can be designed as arbitrarily small to model stress singularity with sufficient accuracy. This approach is very economical in terms of computer memory and programing.
