Abstract

Abstract The electron energy spectrum of a tight-binding two-dimensional quasicrystal (2DQS) model is numerically investigated. It is shown that there exist strongly localized states throughout the energy band, their density forming a devil's staircase. There is also a region around the band center, in which roughly 70% of all the states lie. These states are not well localized, and the properties of this sub-band resemble those of a disordered system.
