Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the theory of measurement in quantum mechanics that investigates the relation of the basic theoretical constructs to experimental material. The chapter then explores the basic mathematical concepts of quantum mechanics, formulating in the process the fundamental axioms that these constructs have to obey. This entire exposition will lead in a natural way to specialized versions of quantum mechanics, such as the already familiar case of wave mechanics.
