Effect of the template layers on the a-axis oriented YBa2Cu3O7-xthin films using two step pulsed laser deposition

Abstract

Abstract An a-axis oriented YBa 2Cu 3O 7-x(YBCO) thin film exhibiting zero resistance at 83 K was obtained on SrTiO 3(100) substrate with an 180 nm - thick PrBa 2Cu 3O 7-x(PBCO) template layer by two step pulsed layer deposition (PLD). The volume fraction of a-axis orientation and the crystallinity(χ min) of the 150 nm-thick YBCO thin films were increased with increasing the thickness of PBCO template layer. It is concluded that the thickness of the PBCO template layer is one of the important parameters to control the structural and superconducting properties of the a-axis oriented YBCO thin films using the PBCO template layers.
