Abstract

Abstract An estimate is made of the decay rate of K 1 0→ π 0e +e − in terms of the mean-square charge radius 〈 r 2〉 of the neutral K-meson. Assuming for 〈 r 2〉 the value predicted by vector-meson dominance, the ratio Γ(K 1 0→ π 0e +e −)/ Γ(K 1 0→ π + π −) is found to be 8×10 −9. The background from the decay K 2 0→ π 0e +e − is also estimated, and arguments are given to show that Γ(K 2 0→ π 0e +e −)/ Γ(K 1 0→ π 0e +e − ⪅10−4.
