Abstract

This article gives a historical overview of arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (AC). First discovered in Italy in the eighteenth century, AC was extensively studied over the years by numerous pioneering investigators, until in 1994 the first international task force published definitive diagnostic criteria. These criteria have been revised recently, taking into account more novel directions in research such as genotype-phenotype correlations, new diagnostic tools, risk stratification and genetic testing.
