Abstract

Abstract The spin-Peierls transition and the Fano effect in α′-Na 1− δ V 2O 5 ( δ=0, 0.01 and 0.1) have been studied by means of Raman scattering. The origins of five new peaks and a broad band which appear only below T SP and the crystal structure below T SP are discussed. When the temperature and the Na +-ion deficiency increase, the Fano asymmetry observed at 531 cm −1 weakens because the transition probability of the phonon–phonon decay channel increases and the phonon–electronic excitation interaction decreases.
