Abstract

Abstract The cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 25 MeV alpha particles by 31P, 32S and 40Ca have been measured using a broad-range magnetic spectrograph and by semiconductor detector techniques. Angular distributions from 20° to 120° were obtained for the interactions exciting the states at 1.26 and 2.23 MeV in 31P, at 2.24 and 5.01 MeV in 32S and at 3.73 and 4.48 MeV in 40Ca. These cross sections are analysed with the adiabatic sharp cut-off model and by the coupled-channels model. The values of the deformation parameters are extracted and compared with those found in other investigations.
