Abstract

A two-stage gasification pilot plant was designed and built as a co-operative project between the Technical University of Denmark and the company REKA.A dynamic, mathematical model of the two-stage pilot plant was developed to serve as a tool for optimising the process and the operating conditions of the gasification plant. The model consists of modules corresponding to the different elements in the plant. The modules are coupled together through mass and heat conservation. Results from the model are compared with experimental data obtained during steady and unsteady operation of the pilot plant. A good agreement between the numerical results and the experimental data is obtained. The mathematical model prescribes that the plant reaches a new steady-state condition fast, when changing the operating condition from full load to partial load.
