Abstract

This article is part of a research concerning the political theology of emperors Aurelianus, Diocletianus and Constantine. It contributed to change the Roman Empire into an absolute monarchy, based on divine right, which pretended to be universal. 3rd century's political restlessness had shown the need for new standpoints of imperial power. Diocletianus thought the solution was to base his authority on divine origin. The "son of Jupiter" held the official "Dominus noster" title. All around him became sacred.
