Abstract
Forest thinning involves the removal of some trees to benefit the other trees in the forest. When forestsare thinned, heavy machines are used that drive through the forest and affect the forest negatively. The company Airforestry is developing a new system that offers the possibility of thinning from the air using an electric drone. The drone along with its hanging harvesting tool flies to the tree that is marked to be removed. The drone is flown autonomously, while the drone's harvesting tool currently requires an operator to carry out pruning, sawing and collecting of the tree. The operator uses a handheld controller as interface for the harvesting tool. This controller will be replaced for a new interface developed with ergonomic and functional requirements. In this study, an in-depth literature study has been carried out for the areas concerned, an observation has been carried out on the company's current user interface and employees have been questioned in various ways. This information gathering has been the basis for developing the four concepts presented to employees of the company. The concepts were produced in 3D format with the software Blender. A fifth final concept was produced as a result of this work and presented to the employees of the company. The final concept was based on all the previous four concepts and on further advice from the employees. The final concept is evaluated based on a requirements specification compiled during the period of information gathering. The evaluation showed that the result fulfills the requirements in the requirements specification with an acceptable amount. It showed that there are great difficulties in evaluating ergonomic aspects when a physical real prototype is not produced.
