Abstract

Abstract The use of a mixing-cell configuration allows the study of the kinetics of radionuclide reactions with geologic media to be greatly simplified by removal of complex hydraulic considerations from the mass-balance equation. Experiments to examine the kinetics of reaction between Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, granite and 75Se, 137Cs, 144Ce, 125Sb, 60Co, 113Sn, and 207Bi have been conducted using a mixing-cell contactor. The effects of temperature, tracer concentration, intergranular diffusion into the granite matrix, surface alteration of the granite, solution composition and cell geometric and operating parameters have been examined. The data from these experiments are compared to several kinetic models.
