Abstract

Abstract Mortars made from magnesia-phosphate cement were observed to set within 15 minutes at 22°C and to harden within 1 hour. The major hydrate formed was struvite, NH 4MgPO 4·6H 2O, usually accompanied by schertelite, (NH 4 2Mg(HPO 4) 2·4H 2O, at least initially. Some hydration products also contained dittmarite, NH 4MgPO 4·H 2O, and/or stercorite, NaNH 4HPO 4·4H 2O, but these were present only as minor constituents.
