Abstract

Abstract Silyl—ruthenium(IV) complexes, RuH 3(SiR 3)L n , (R 3 = F 3, MeF 2, Cl 2Me, (OEt) 3, ClMe 2, HPh 2, MePh 2, Ph 3; L = PPh 3, AsPh 3, P(C 6H 4Me- p) 3; n = 2, 3) are formed by reaction of an excess of HSiR 3 with RuH 2L 4, RuHClL 2, RuCl 2L 3, or RuCl 3(AsPh 3) 3. The chloro complexes react with concurrent formation of ClSiR 3. With HSiMe 3 or HSiEt 3, RuCl 2(PPh 3)s is reduced to RuHCl(PPh 3) 3 and no silyl complexes are formed; these silanes do not react with RuH 2(PPh 3) 4. Complexes of the type RuH 2X(SiR 3)L 3 (X = Cl, I) are obtained by reaction of the chlororuthenium(II) complexes with HSiCl 3, or of RuH 3[Si(OEt) 3](PPh 3) 3 with CDCl 3 or I 2. The complexes RuH 3(SiR 2)L 3 undergo silyl exchange or H—D exchange with HSiR 3′ or D 2.
