Abstract

Abstract The theory of the design of rotary filamentary impaction filters for the continuous removal of small particles carried at high concentrations in fast-flowing gases is extended to include the use of tapered filaments so that the variation of impaction efficiency along the length of the filaments may be controlled. Four practical types of such filters are identified, each of which may be subdivided into several classes. Expressions for the characteristics of interest for all types and classes are indicated.
