Abstract

An interpretive, phenomenological approach to gaining a context-based understanding of the process of deaning is explored, with reference to the mentorship relationship existing between the two authors. The development of such a relationship and its attendant benefits and risks are described, along with a framework for analysis of the decanal process. Some requirements for successful use of the study method in the dean-novice relationship are listed.
