Depressed areas in Burgundy - In Burgundy the population, sparse in comparison with the whole of France, is, except for Dijon, distributed amongst a few small centres and scattered among many, often very small villages. The departure of the population, especially of young people, the low birth rate and the increasing age of the population lead to the creation of very depressed areas with essentially rural inhabitants. The "Morvan" which is representative of these zones, is studied particulary. An alarming devitalization is found there. Will the State aid to underprivileged areas included in the 7th Plan be sufficient to reverse this trend in time ?
