Abstract

Abstract Absorption cells containing vapours are now quite widely used in conjunction with synchrotron radiation, but their design appears to have evolved along different lines in the several laboratories concerned and does not seem to have been the subject of any review. We compare here various techniques in current use and we also describe some ovens for generating atomic and molecular beams.
