Abstract

Forty male schizophrenics learned a paired-associate list in which stimulus frequency and response probability were varied to a criterion of two perfect trials. After an interval of 14–17 days, retention was tested by aided recall. Results indicated that performance was poorest, at least in retention ( p < .025), when responses of low probability were paired with stimulus members of low frequency. This finding confirmed previous work reported by Postman.
