Abstract

Summary Phase-space linear and non-linear coordinate transformations of the Wigner distribution function (WDF) are employed to analyse two particular cases of three-dimensional far field diffraction. They correspond to a planar thick object and a tilted aperture, both illuminated by a monochromatic plane wave, which can be treated as modified geometries of the Fraunhofer diffraction by planar objects. Some experimental results illustrate the proposed approach.
