Abstract

Abstract Metastable fragments produced by electron impact dissociation of nitrous oxide are investigated using a low work function surface detector. The production of N 2(A 3Σ u +) metastable molecular fragments is shown to be a dominant dissociative process. Kinetic energy spectra of the products are determined by the method of time of flight spectroscopy and used to reveal the various types of dissociative processes involved.
