The impact of growth in the cultural sector on the political formation and citizenship as well as the sector`s dynamic in relation to cultural policy - making we object of innumerous debates. A lot of criticism was directed to a society of mass consume and cultural industries and their effects on culture. However, little attention was paid to the social - its economical characteristics and little effort was made to quantify some central aspects of the cultural sector`s dynamics. This lacking attention and efforts are the guidelines that give direction to the analysis that follows. The work describes the formal cultural job from the perspective of the Annual Relation of Social Information (Relação Anual de Informações Sociais - Rais). The results indicate that the cultural sector is an important segment of the job market, having its own dynamic and unexplored potential to generate jobs, income and symbolic goods. Moreover results, show also that there are important regional inequalities when it comes to the development of cultural activities.
