Abstract

Abstract The kinetics of the reaction of CF 3CFHO 2 radicals with NO was studied by flash photolysis—time-resolved mass spectrometry. From the kinetic growth rate of NO + 2 molecular ions the rate coefficient of the reaction CF 3CFHO 2 + NO → CF 3CFHO + NO 2 was determined to be k = (1.31 ± 0.30) × 10 −11 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 in the pressure range 12–25 Torr at 324 ± 1 K. Measurements of the total NO 2 yield indicated that the CF 3CFHO radicals were completely dissociated by CC bond scission on the 50 ms time scale of the experiments. The results are discussed in the context of atmospheric chemistry of HFC-134a.
