A syllabus functions as a guidance for the teacher in teaching learning process. The implementation of syllabus also holds the important role to help improve educational practices and achieve the goal of teaching learning.The research was coducted to know the implementation of English syllabus. The research design used in this study was a descriptive qualitative design. The researcher took two teachers who were teaching English in the first year students at SMPN 1 Tempeh Lumajang academic year 20082009 as the research subject. The result of the study showed that the two teachers who taught English in the first year students at SMPN 1 Tempeh Lumajang academic year 20082009 modified and developed the syllabus. The teachers implemented the syllabus that they have developed. The researcher expected that the result of this study would be useful for the teachers, the school and the headmaster. It was suggested for the teachers who teach English that they should coordinate the meeting before implementing their syllabus in the class, so they would achieve the same goals. In addition, the school should update the references to improve the quality of the materials.
