Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study is to develop a three-dimensional thermoelastic-plastic finite-element model coupled with a three-dimensional heat-transfer finite-difference model under the assumption of rigid work rolls, during the rolling of an aluminium strip. At the same time, numerical-analytical methods are used to simulate the production process of cold rolling. In respect of cold rolling, this study aims to explore phenomena that can not be understood by means of two-dimensional simulation, such as the shape changes, the force distribution, and the distribution of the stress and temperature on both surfaces of a three-dimensional strip. Further, the shape changes and the plastic flow of the material on both sides of the strip in cold rolling are studied.
