Abstract

Abstract Drug development is crucial to improving the care given to neonates through new and existing medicines. Pressure from regulatory agencies has improved the way in which pharmaceutical companies work with neonates. This provides new opportunities for the neonatal community. This paper describes the issues that arise during the development of new drugs and considers how the contemporary approach to new drugs can inform research on existing drugs.
