Abstract

Abstract We propose to approximate the many-body partition function for a system of interacting Fermions by summing static paths of the Hubbard-Stratonovich representation. We demonstrate with a simple two-level model that the approximation is superior to finite temperature Hartree theory. Corrections to the approximation to second order in the inverse temperature are readily evaluated.
