Abstract

Abstract A valence force field has been derived for the 8 A 1 and 7 B 1 in-plane vibrations of selenophene and tellurophene. The force constants' refinement has been derived from experimental frequencies previously obtained for selenophene and tellurophene. Numerical values of the force constants show that there is a noticeable variation in the ring-aromaticity of these congeners, going from thiophene to tellurophene, as previously established by different techniques.
