Lilian Beatrice Dunning was born in the Kittitas Valley on September 21, 1902 to Charles and Elizabeth Snow Dunning. She attended the Woldale Rural School. Lilly married Gilbert Colgate Pope in 1925 in Yakima, Washington. They ranched at the mouth of Wilson Creek for 45 years. The couple was very involved in the Ellensburg Rodeo and the raising of livestock. Lilly and Gil were both avid hunters and took pride in assisting wild game through the snowy winter months. Lilly died on September 20, 1985.
