Evolution of a new reaction pathway in propene-deuterium exchange reaction by the co-adsorption of CO over Rh, Ir, and Os carbonyl cluster derived catalysts supported on alumina

The mechanism of propene-deuterium exchange reaction was investigated over alumina supported Os3(CO)12, Ir4(CO)12 and Rh4(CO)12 carbonyl cluster derived catalysts by applying a microwave spectroscopic technique. The coverage dependence of the preadsorbed CO upon the structure and the activity of the intermediates was studied in detail. A new reaction pathway was proposed in C3H6−C3D6 reaction, which involves an intermolecular hydrogen shift between two adsorbed propene molecules.
