Abstract

Abstract Photoluminescence, excitation and transmission spectra are reported for Cd 1−xZn x Te/CdTe/Cd 1−xZn xTe quantum wells of various thicknesses between 370Å and 1070Å. The relatively wide wells are characterized by the quantization of the excitonic polariton center-of-mass motion inside the CdTe layer; on the other hand, the spectra relative to thinner quantum wells can be fitted using the usual model of the exciton formed from quantized carrier states (e ih i). The transition between these two situations takes place between 510Å and 800Å for our systems.
